Pressing seaweed into beautiful Art

Saturday 6th June 2026

1-3pm

Seaweed pressing is a beautiful way to appreciate and preserve Seaweed.

I will help participants to create beautiful artwork by making seaweed pressings collected from our local beach. Seaweed is often looked upon as either fishy smelling or a nuisance, when in fact it has very many sustainable and artistic uses, from plant pots, pressings, lampshades to alternatives to plastic and of course in cooking. I will show children some of the very many beautiful colours shapes and sizes of seaweed and how to create beautiful pressings that they bring home, dry out fully and frame for keeping. They last many years. It helps with identifying and getting to know our local biodiversity and shore life in fun ways also. I will provide a print out of instructions on how to make them again and go through after care of the ones the children make on the day.
