One Million Trees in One Day….

Was helping a dear friend today, make a start preparing a sloping site, to receive a selection of fruit trees from this amazing initiative. We had great company, told jokes in the cold, smoke tinged air, safe in the knowledge that we were doing some-thing so worth-while, that would out live us all. The egg mayo.sambo with home-made white bread, eaten on the way home was the perfect reward, thanks Martha.

One Million Trees in One Day is a charity, not-for-profit, cross-border, community and environmental initiative which will plant a million young native trees at many different sites across both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland in 24 hours. Its true aim however is to establish individual trees and woodlands in both rural and urban areas that will grow for many many years and which will provide valuable resources, beneficial ecosystem services and a lasting legacy for future generations.

Friday 22nd March 2013 – Saturday 23rd March 2013. Planting will begin at 12 noon on Friday and will finish at 12 noon on Saturday.

Planting a million trees in one day with only a few hours of daylight will be a great challenge. We believe that many hands make light work; the more people joining the huge team that will bring this project to fruition, the easier the job will be. It might rain, it might snow, it could be the hottest day of the year… but we’re going to give it our very best shot.

One Million Trees in One Day is a charity and not for profit project from The Forestry Foundation (INFF). Charity Number: CHY15746
